About Mia:
Mia Cacho has been a part of the NAVCAL/NAV2CAL community since 2020. She started as a NAV2CAL fellow and became a mentor in both NAVCAL and NAV2CAL. She is a fourth-year, first-generation, low-income student at the University of California, Berkeley. She is pursuing a major in Public Health and is active in many communities on campus. Previously, she has served as a committee chair for the Cal Undergraduate Public Health Association, and outreach co-chair for the Fiat Lux Scholarship Association. Mia’s experience extends beyond campus, having worked as a research intern for the UCSF/Kaiser Undergraduate Research Internship (URI) and Columbia University as a CDC John R. Lewis Undergraduate Public Health Scholar. She has also advised students through the Richmond Promise Organization and served as an ambassador for the Contra Costa County Health Services. As a 4th year student, Mia is a teaching assistant for the Substance Abuse Research and Advocacy DeCal. Her research interests include health disparities, mental health, substance use, and educational disparities. She will graduate with her bachelor's in public health in 2025, and intends to pursue a master’s in public health to help improve the health and well-being of her community.
